SEPTEMBER 24, 2010 - Deloitte leaves its impact on Heartwood House!

Many thanks to the eighteen Deloitte volunteers who gave their time and talents to Heartwood House on Deloitte's Impact Day on Friday September 24th.  The Deloitte team did a variety of tasks including gardening, painting, moving items, washing walls and counting items for the next Unclaimed Items Sale. They did a fantastic job and we are grateful to each volunteer for giving the gift of his/her time.  Many thanks to Stephanie Sirois of Deloitte for her work to lead the Deloitte Team.

UNCLAIMED ITEMS SALE - MAY 1, 2010 -  ANOTHER SUCCESS!

It's a challenge to believe that so much money could be raised in just 1 hour and 50 minutes or that we could raise this much money when the majority of items are sold from 25 cents to $5, but we did it we raised $3,561.75!

Spring 2010 Unclaimed Items Sale

We received some excellent media support for Heartwood House and the Unclaimed Items Sale with a front page story in the Ottawa Citizen and a TV news story on CJOH that aired several times.  A guitar was one of the items up for sale but thanks to the CJOH story this item was returned to its rightful owner.  The guitar was stolen from the owner's home and ended up on an OCT bus the next day. He never thought to call the lost and found. But as fate would have it, there was his guitar on tv. He called and gave me his sale receipt and and his police report to prove that he was the rightful owner and he was a very happy guy when he learned that the guitar was rightfully his. So not only good news for Heartwood in the monies raised but good news for the man too.

Many thanks to the following Heartwooders for the gift of their time to make the sale a huge success:

ADAO - Yorek and Lotte
ALSO- Dennis and Susan
APHASIA - Joanne and Lise
CLC - Kathy, Ryan and Becky
ECOEQUITABLE - Sonia and Katherine

JANUARY 28, 2010 - ALSO Celebrates Family Literacy Day

Congratulations to ALSO (Alternative Learning Styles and Outlooks), an adult and family literacy program who celebrated Family Literacy Day with stories, songs and sign language!  Carol Michon from Vanier Community Service Centre joined in the fun to tell a funny story about a pesky germ.  Heartwood House’s own Executive Director, Maureen Moloughney brought her guitar and had everyone doing the hokey pokey!  And Kathy Holmes, a teacher in the Deaf Literacy program at also, told stories through sign. Minister Diane Finley and Scott Murray from ABC Canada, as well as many of the families and students from ALSO participated in this very enjoyable event.
